Important tips on Toronto schools

Is my area school always my area school?

Choosing where to live if a particular school is important to you can be tricky. Due to current high enrollment levels in many parts of the city both school boards have changed the district boundaries for many schools and closed most schools to optional attendance from students who do not live in the school catchment area. Even parents who have one child attending a school have found that their next child was not allowed to attend the same school if the boundaries had changed.

Most new condominium developments have disclaimers advising buyers that their children probably will not be allowed to attend the local school for that street. For French Immersion the high rate of applications has students being bussed to different areas.  Checking the school board website will tell you the boundaries today, but these change frequently.

If a particular school is a requirement for your purchase decision I will ensure your new home is within the proper school boundary. To try to prevent being displaced when a boundary changes I also recommend that you move well within a boundary, not just on the inside of the boundary line. I have a son (grade 11) in the school system currently. Let my experience work for you. Call me anytime.
